Prosser to Boca Reservoir and back for a Prosser Sunset

Song:  Above All

Artist:  Helen Jane Long

I just came back from an hour and a half ride
from Prosser Reservoir to Boca Reservoir and back...
with my elder sister.

My elder sister learned much during this literal shakedown ride.

I went farther this time...
and it proved to be very bumpy.

I applied what I had learned from my initial shakedown ride last time.

My video camera mount worked flawlessly this time...
and I bought a chest strap for my camera.

This took the pressure off of my neck...
and kept the camera very handy.

I also bought a polarizing filter and a lens shade.

I will buy a pack to strap on to my seat to carry extra video camera batteries.
My video battery died shortly after arriving back at the vehicles...
just before sunset.

The ride took one hour to reach Boca Reservoir...
as it was up an incline to reach it.

And so...
it only took us half an hour to come back.

It was a ten mile ride...
comfortable except for the washboard sections of much of the road.

My elder sister, her husband, and I plan to go on long rides in the mountains
or Lake Tahoe once a week.

We will try to get my younger sister and my mother to accompany us on our rides as well...
but only on the paved bike trails though.

My younger sister's trike and my mother's palanquin are not made for off road use.

My elder sister learned that the mounted headrest on her trike will have to go.

On bumpy sections...
her helmet kept hitting the headrest...
forcing her to use her abs to pull her body more upright away from the headrest.

We had to stop a few times so she could rest her abs.

Before our next ride...
she is going to remove it.

About halfway to Boca Reservoir...
I had her take the lead...
as all the shaking caused her chain to derail.

She fixed the problem by tying the chain tubes together...
which in turn...
tightened her chain.

After doing so...
she had no more problems.

Near Boca Reservoir...
they had pavement...
which was a welcome sight.

We arrived at a small section of Boca Reservoir.

We rested but a short while before starting our return journey.

Although it is hard to see them...
the road had many perpendicular ridges...
which made the ride rough.

I probably won't be going on this route anymore...
as some sections are so rough that I am afraid that
it will cause premature wear on the steering bushings...
or even cause the wheels to get out of alignment.

However, there are many more trails to explore anyway.

We had timed our ride so that we would finish it before sunset.

I helped my elder sister load her trike onto her carrier...
and she is doing the final tire and frame securing.

She had to bring along a step ladder to be able to secure the upper straps.
But, it proved useful as it provided her a seat for sunset.

I awaited the end of the sunset to load my trike into the car...
as it was my easy chair for sunset.

The sunset was a nice finish to our shakedown ride.

My elder sister's husband had gotten BBQ for after our ride.

After helping my elder sister off load her trike...
I ate a great BBQ feast...
and my mother loved it as well.

I then drove home with my trike in the car.

I will edit the video a little later on...
as it usually is a few hour process.

Depending on the weather...
we are planning on taking our mother to the Lake Tahoe East Trail.

She will love riding in her wheeled Palanquin.

Another ride we have planned for her is the Truckee River Trail.

Although...
we won't be going the full length of the Truckee River Trail
with my mom in tow as it is a twenty mile ride...
we will take her on much of it before we head back to the car.

I am sure she will enjoy it...
as the weather is so nice now.
